THE BEDROOM BROWSER

You may find it very useful to develop a bedroom browser or information book for your guest rooms or the reception area to help your guests get the most out of their stay.
There are lots of advantages to having an information resource like this, not least that you may reduce the length of time you spend answering guests’ questions.


Contents of the Browser
Your information book may include the following types of information, however you should adjust the contents of your browser according to the types of people who come and stay with you. For example, if you get a lot of walkers, you may wish to include more detail about the routes available in the area. If you get a large proportion of people on "shopping breaks" you should consider emphasising information on important shopping areas and transport to and from these.

  • Fire evacuation information
  • Nearest hospital
  • How to contact you as proprietor
  • Details of services available in the establishment, e.g. checking out time, breakfast times, bar opening times (if applicable)
  • Access arrangements out-of-hours
  • Parking information
  • Map of local area
  • Nearest bank, building society and ATM
  • Contact details for police, doctor and other local services
  • Nearest post office
  • Location of nearest tourism information centre
  • Places to go when dry including opening times, contact details and how to get there
  • Places to go when wet including opening times, contact details and how to get there, e.g. libraries and museums
  • Forthcoming Festivals & Events
  • Local pubs with pen portraits of offering, e.g. real ale, whether children are welcome, whether they do food, contact details and how to get there
  • Local restaurants again with pen portraits including some idea of relative cost and dress code if any plus any special features, e.g. good vegetarian options, Taste of Wales.
  • Nearest chemist and opening times
  • Nearest supermarket and retail outlets
  • Nearest garage
  • Bus and other public transport timetables/information and contact details
  • Nearest places of worship and contact detailsNearest take-away
    Calendar of what’s on locally in terms of events and festivals
  • Nearest cinemas and theatres and contact details and how to get there
  • Nearest leisure centres, sports facilities, swimming pools
  • Tide tables (if near the sea)
  • Local boat trips with sailing times, contact details and how to get there.
  • Other local excursions, e.g. walking tours, with contact details

Keep the Bedroom Browser Up to Date
Make sure that you regularly review the contents of the browser. When you get a new question not covered in the book then update the content accordingly.
