BENCHMARKING
If you want to measure your business performance you can use indicators like profit and Return on Investment etc.
However in the Tourism Industry there are many examples of practice that are hard to measure and quantify.
Benchmarking provides a basis for measuring your business performance against similar organisations and established criteria relevant to your industrial sector.
Best Practice Forum
The Best Practice Forum is a government-backed initiative launched to encourage the transfer of international best practice in the hospitality and leisure industry. With government support, the Forum is investing over £4m over five years to help businesses, particularly small and medium sized, to raise their level of competitiveness to world class standards by improving productivity and providing better value.
The Forum is a strategic alliance of seven leading trade associations:

Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions
- British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions
- British Beer and Pub Association
- British Holiday & Home Parks Association
- British Hospitality Association
- Business in Sport and Leisure
- Restaurant Association
The Forum is working closely with the Sector Skills Council, professional bodies and other industry partners and is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
The Forum's "Profit Through Productivity" scheme aims to help small tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses learn from best practice to boost productivity, improve their profits - and make them world-class at the same time.
