FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE

All accommodation businesses, which serve food or drink, need to register within 28 days of opening with your local authority environmental department (see link). It is a simple form and free.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has a 28-page guide which covers all aspects of the law relating to operating a catering business: www.food.gov.uk/catering it includes useful tips and checklist. Click onto starting up a catering business and the guide will be downloaded (this may take some time for non-broadband users) in English or Welsh and a number of other languages. It can also be ordered by post.

Food Hygiene
In addition to the above you must also comply with the Hygiene Regulations if you supply food to guests.

Help is available from your local environmental health department and information is also included in the Food Standards Agency who have produced a guide to starting up a catering business
