Music Licensing

If you play a sound recording in public there are TWO separate license fees to be paid.

PPL collect the fees and distribute them to record companies and artists

PRS distribute the fees to composers and music publishers

It is illegal to play music in public without a license from both these organizations except for unlicensed small B&Bs and guesthouses with three rooms or less which do not require a licence at all. The same applies to owners of a single self-catering property with three guest bedrooms or less. For others, the price of a licence starts from £45 plus VAT.
