Maps & Directions
Finding your location to someone unfamiliar to the area can be difficult and fraught. Remember not everyone can read a map or remember verbal directions.
If you want your new customers to arrive as un stressed as possible a good map and clear directions are vital.
Maps
Must be clear, uncluttered and up to date. The Ordnance Survey now provides a " get a map online" free service, which can be of help. Go to www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap to print off a map using your postcode or map reference, certain limitations apply.
If you wish to use an Ordnance Survey map in your leaflets, this can now be done online for a relatively inexpensive cost at www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/copyright where you will find step-by-step instructions on how to apply online.
Alternatively contact your local authority or tourist association to see if any arrangements have already been made. If you are considering drawing your own map please ensure you have it checked out for clarity by others before you put in online or in your leaflet.
Directions
Written directions should always accompany any map. Again make sure these are clear and unambiguous, for example make sure it is indeed 2 miles from the last right turn do not guess or estimate this. They also need to be up to date to ensure that any local diversions or long term road works are included. Best practice for directions information is to keep them on your web site so they can be updated regularly or al least on your computer so they can be emailed when needed.
It is also important, particularly for those in a rural location, that your property has a sign on it as to many first time visitors it may not be apparent that they have found you otherwise.
