Starting Up A CARAVAN PARK

There are two distinct ways of establishing a caravan/camping park

Green field development

Buying an existing park

This section outlines in general terms the points that a new operator should consider.

The two main trade organisations for caravan park operators do however provide very detailed information and accept membership from potential operators. They both have excellent web sites, which will answer in much greater detail questions as well as being able to call on experts in all aspects of caravan park operation.

British Holiday & Home Park Association (BHHPA)

National Caravan Council

The Caravan Industry Training Organisation (CITO) provides a National Certificate in Park Management, which is suitable for individuals with little or no park management experience. This course can be studied at your own pace and does not require attendance at college. Exams are held twice a year. The topics covered are:

  • Planning and Site Licences
  • Health and Safety
  • Employment Law
  • Consumer Law
  • Environmental & Social responsibility
  • Codes of Practice
